Winter is probably the hardest time of year to stay healthy, but essential oils can definitely help. From the typical cold to the more progressive flu or even just general malaise, a number of different conditions can affect your healthy at this time of year. So, what can you do about it? Aside from staying active, eating a balanced diet, and using essential oils of course. While you can use almost any oils to stay healthy this time of you, I have a few favorites that seem to work double duty. If your goal is to stay healthy this winter, you simply must give these natural remedies a try!
The Best Essential Oils for Winter Health
Experiencing a cough or cold? Give eucalyptus a try. This oil boosts immune health and reduces inflammation in your sinuses and respiratory tract. It’s a natural antiseptic and antibacterial oil (that you probably look for when you’re choosing cough drops or vapor rubs). I love to use this oil in our diffuser when one of us is under the weather, but you can also make a DIY vapor rub with a little coconut oil and a few drops of eucalyptus oil.
This is one of my key ingredients in my Sinus Bomb remedy. This essential oil boosts immunity and treats infection, so it’s perfect for the winter cold. I like adding this one to a veggie capsule (it’s really potent), but you can use it externally (diluted) or aromatically as well.
Peppermint is one of my favorite oils all year long. I just love the smell of it! But, it’s just as effective a remedy. This one is great for digestive health, so it can help eliminate the pesky tummy bugs. Plus, it helps reduce inflammation and infection in the respiratory system. A few drops on your tongue, in a veggie capsule or diluted in coconut oil and applied to your throat is great!
Lemon is another one of my go-to essential oils all year long. It’s great during the winter for typical ailments like a cough, cold, or even an earache. Lemon is a natural disinfectant, so it helps remedy underlying infection. It also increases energy and improves emotional affect. To use this one dilute the oil in a little coconut oil and apply behind your ears and on your lymph nodes, or diffuse it for a natural healing air freshener.
Frankincense is one of the most expensive oils, so we try to use it sparingly. But, it’s perfect for opening up the sinuses and reducing inflammation. It’s also the perfect remedy for that nagging cough. Use it in a veggie capsule or apply it diluted with coconut oil to your sinuses for opening and anti-inflammatory benefits.
Winter is full of coughs, colds, and other illnesses, but you can beat the winter crud. Use these essential oils to stay healthy this winter and feel your best. These are natural remedies you can feel good about!
