It’s all too easy for me to get caught up in my to-do list and schedule this time of year. I’m trying to make this year different though and being really intentional about simplifying the season and really taking time to savor this holiday.
I know we all have a tendency to get caught up this time of year, so I decided to share a few of my tips with you! If you’d like to make your holiday season a little simpler too, give these ideas a try!
1. Write it down!
I’m all about lists, but especially this time of year, having everything written down makes such a difference! It keeps me less stressed and helps me avoid forgetting anything!
2. Know when to say “No!”
This is one of the hardest for me. I like to keep everyone happy, and I want to participate in as much as I can. But overpacking my schedule just adds to the stress and craziness of the season, so knowing when to say “No!” to extra parties, gifts, and goodies makes all the difference!
3. Stop and smell the nutmeg!
It certainly is the most wonderful time of year, but if you don’t take the time to enjoy it, you’ll end up missing it all. Take some time each day to just stop and enjoy!
4. Finish up early!
The closer we get to the big day, the crazier everything gets. Avoid the mall and other shops, even the grocery store, the closer we get to Christmas. Get you shopping done early, and plan ahead for any grocery shopping that you’ll need to do for the holiday.
5. Accept help!
This is another one I struggle with. I like to have things done a certain way, so I often end up just doing them myself. That just doesn’t cut it this time of year, though! Instead, accept help when others offer it, and even ask for it if you need it!
6. Have a little fun!
I’m the queen of trying to stay on track, but this time of year following a super strict regimen will only add to the stress. Instead, give yourself a little grace, and enjoy a treat or two here and there, and even give yourself a rest day once in a while. Really getting to enjoy will help you simplify and savor the season!
7. Stay on budget!
Nothing makes the holidays more stressful than spending money you don’t really have. So if your gift list is looking a little longer than your budget is, then consider coming up with a few handmade gifts to give, or even shorten your list a little.
8. Remember the reason for the season!
Keeping everything in perspective and remembering why we are really celebrating this time of year is one of the best ways to simplify and enjoy the season. Check out these tips for celebrating Jesus in this season as well!
These are just a few of the ways I’m being intentional about the holiday season this year! I hope that they help you keep everything in perspective and make the most of this holiday season as well! Merry Christmas!
