*I received a free home teeth whitening system from Smile Brilliant to try and share with you. All of the opinions expressed below are my own! (Spoiler alert…I loved it!)
We hear it all the time. ”Sleep when the baby sleeps.” Or maybe it’s, “Rest when she (or he) does.” No matter how it is delivered, the package is the same…Take some time for YOU while your baby naps. But while the concept seems nice, how many of us actually do it?
I don’t know about you, but even when my baby was little, I knew that naptime was prime time. It was one of the few times in the day that I wasn’t holding, nursing, or changing a baby, so I always planned to maximize that time. I’d plan out ever task I was going to accomplish during those few sweet minutes of hands-free time. But I’d always come up short.
She’d always wake before I thought she would (or should). Or she’d start stirring (okay, crying) before I had accomplished everything on my list. And I’d always rush to get her feeling way more frazzled after her nap than I had felt before – you know the complete opposite of what I’d had planned.
After months of this same cycle…Lay her down for a nap, write out my list, accomplish maybe one thing, hear the baby crying, get her up from her nap feeling frustrated and everything but refreshed. While I understand a little of that is just a basic tenet of motherhood, I also realized that there had to be a better way.
In doing a little mama research (you know, scrolling Pinterest), I came across the concept of the “naptime retreat,” and it’s one of those things (like double swaddling) that has absolutely revolutionized my experience as a mama. It’s so simple that you’re going to laugh, but I promise it was like mind boggling for me.
Instead of just focusing on all of the tasks I need to get done during naptime, I first start with just a few minutes for me. Yep, that’s it! Even just 15 minutes of naptime spent on me has completely remade our days!
Your naptime retreat depends a lot on your favorite activities and what makes you feel good. But here are a few of my suggestions:
- Get a healthy snack
- Read a book
- Write or journal
- Get in a quick workout
- Paint your nails
The past few weeks, though, I’ve been making my own naptime retreat a little more intentional. I’ve always been a little self-conscious about the color of my teeth (coffee fanatic up in here), but I hadn’t really found a home teeth whitening system that worked effectively but was still easy. That is until I tried Smile Brilliant!
I started using this whitening kit during naptime a few weeks ago. And after using it, I can honestly say this is a perfect option for busy mamas. The starter kit is mailed right to you with simple directions on how to do your own impressions and then you just drop everything in the pre-posted envelope and stick it in the mail. And just a few days later, you’ll get your custom molds so you can start whitening at naptime too!
As a busy mom, I don’t have a lot of time to spare, and I’m definitely not going to commit to several appointments to get professional whitening at the dentist’s office. With Smile Brilliant, I didn’t have to, though. It was such an easy home teeth whitening kit to use, and I love the results I’ve gotten! My teeth are definitely brighter, and their coloring is more consistent throughout! We’re even looking into getting a set for my husband to use! (And the whitening gels are even vegan and cruelty free!)
But there is even better news for you! I’ve partnered with Smile Brilliant to give one of you a FREE home teeth whitening kit! Just fill out the form, and you’ll be entered to win in-store credit to get your own kit so you can start whitening at naptime too!
If you’ve been feeling a little frazzled lately, then I encourage you to adopt this naptime retreat concept too. Use your baby’s nap as an opportunity to do a little something for you – like reading a book or even whitening your teeth – and I promise it’ll make a difference!
