No matter what I’m doing, I always try to maintain habits that help me feel good about myself. And, one component of having a good self-concept is feeling like I look good. For me, feeling my best involves not just keeping up with a healthy lifestyle but enjoying a little pampering once in a while. No matter what I’m doing to feel good or look good, though, I always try to do it within our budget. Want to know a few of my secrets? I thought so!
Enjoy a Little Pampering on Any Budget
Several factors play into how I feel. From being strong and healthy to feeling attractive, it all plays a part. So, when you want to look and feel your best on any budget, start with these tips and tricks.
1. Maintain a Healthy Diet and Exercise Regimen
Okay, so maybe it goes without saying, but you are not going to feel good if you’re practicing unhealthy habits. Consider it kind of like a blank canvas for the beautiful painting that is you! If you don’t start out with that pristine foundation, you’ll have a much more difficult time cultivating anything. Keep that in mind when you’re wanting to look and feel your best. Exercise regularly, and eat a balanced diet so your body has the fuel it needs.
2. Drink Water
I can’t tell you enough how important it is to drink enough water each day. Depending on your body composition anywhere between 60 to 90 percent of your body is comprised of water. If you’re depleting that vital resource, though, you’ll experience all kinds of consequences. Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day, and you’ll have more energy, brighter and clearer skin, and healthier hair and nails.
3. Visit a Local Stylist
My hair is one of those aspects of my outward appearance that I’m pretty particular about. So, this is one of the areas I splurge on a little. I go for at least a regular trim, but I always go to the same stylist. I’ve also found that I can save a little by visiting a smaller, local salon rather than going to one of the “big name” options. With this tip alone, I pay half as much for my hair care and get service that’s far beyond what I could elsewhere. It’s okay. Go ahead and find a stylist you are comfortable with and use your regular hair appointment as one of those “me moments” that you’re able to enjoy.
4. Enjoy a Soak
One of my great escapes is also slipping into the tub for a soak. I like adding some Epsom salts to the water and a few drops of my favorite calming essential oil lavender. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes, enjoy a little down time in the tub. You’ll be amazed at the rejuvenating effects a hot soak can have.
5. Get a Pedicure
Or give yourself one! I’m not one to have my nails done (at all!); however, if I’m really having a down day, I’ve found that a nice pedicure is often just the pick me up I need. I like to keep it budget-friendly by doing my own pedicure, but you can also find some other options by searching for a coupon or Groupon or even just taking advantage of a special. If you’re the DIY type like me, use a pumice stone to soften some of the rough spots on your feet, then soak them in some warm water with Epsom salts and apply a soothing lotion. Finish off by applying your favorite nail color to your tootsies or go au natural like I do!
Anytime I need a little pick me up or a boost to help me feel good, I turn to one of these tips. I’m able to feel and look my best without breaking our budget because most of these pamper-sessions are free or nearly free! The next time you’re feeling a little down or just want to do something a little special for yourself, give one of my tips a try. You’ll feel and look good, and you’ll stick to your budget!
