Going to the Beach with a Baby

We recently got back from our first big vacation with our baby girl. Where did we go? My favorite place – the beach! And, let me add despite the 10+ hour drive both ways overnight and a teething baby girl, it was a VERY successful trip! Now, I probably have the majority of my family to thank for that as everyone was so helpful in spending time with her and keeping her content, but I’d also attribute it to a little bit of prep on all of our parts. So, I thought I’d share a few of our beach must-haves for making a trip to the beach with a baby as much fun as possible. The first trip to the beach with a baby can be challenging. 1. Sunscreen

Obviously this is probably a no brainer, but keeping baby lathered up in sunscreen kept everyone happier! No sunburns for us. I used the Aveeno Baby option on her, and it worked like a charm!

2. Baby Pool

While Grace loved the waves lapping at her toes, it wasn’t very feasible to keep someone on watch with her the whole time. So, we substituted a baby pool filled with ocean water, and she was just as happy. The blow up option made for easy transport to and from the beach as well. The first trip to the beach with a baby can be challenging. 3. Umbrella

Again, shade of some sort probably goes without saying, but we honestly just used one of the simple standup umbrellas rather than getting fancy with a tent or anything. The umbrella was easy to carry back and forth, and we could even move it easily as the sun shifted.

4. Snacks

My mom always says, “Full tummies equal happy kids.” And, it is so true! Grace was at the perfect age during our trip that she was starting to eat easy take along snacks like bananas and other soft fruits. But, melts, puffs, and other finger foods are great options as well. The first trip to the beach with a baby can be challenging. 5. Water

Keeping baby hydrated at the beach is just as important as keeping yourself hydrated. We loved having Grace’s Thermos with a built-in straw as it kept her water cool and sand-free, but I’m sure there are lots of other great options! The first trip to the beach with a baby can be challenging. While we had a few other things that we brought back and forth, these are really my top 5 must-haves for keeping baby (and mama) happy while beachside! I’d also suggest taking along a few family members who enjoy cuddling your sweet little one, but either way, covering the basics and toting a few sand toys, you baby will have it made beachside!
