Essential Oils for Spring and Summer

During spring and summer we spend more time outside being active than we do at any other time of the year, so it goes without saying that we also see the most wounds, beestings, skin reactions, and more at this time of year. Just because we’re more susceptible to injury during these seasons, though, doesn’t mean you can’t do something to help yourself out a bit. As we move further into spring and approach summer, I’m bulking up my essential oils a bit so I have everything I need for this time of year. 1. Basil Oil

Basil is a particularly pungent oil, so always be sure to use it diluted. However, it’s great for treating a wide variety of summertime ailments. Basil is an anti-inflammatory that also helps with itching, so it’s perfect for treating insect bites and muscle aches. You can even use it as a natural insect repellant.

2. Cedarwood Oil

Cedarwood is another great option for this time of the year. Dilute it in a bit of water and mist it on your skin to repel insects. You can also use it to relieve insect bites and treat many common skin reactions.

3. Ginger Oil

Spicy and a bit sweet, ginger oil is perfect almost any time of the year, but it’s especially good for summertime action. Dilute a bit in coconut oil and massage it into your aching muscles. Or take a few drops by mouth or in a capsule to aid in digesting those hamburgers and hotdogs you inhaled at the latest neighborhood get-together.

4. Lavender Oil

Lavender is a must in my essential oils kit all year long, but I definitely make sure I’m stocked up this time of year. Lavender can soothe so many ailments including burns, bruises, cuts, insect bites, sprains, strains, and more. It’s another great natural insect repellant, too. Lavender oil is also a great remedy for those all-too-common sunburns this time of year.

5. Lemongrass Oil

The temperature is heating up this time of year, and that means things could get…well, sweaty. If you’re a heavy sweater, then you just may want to give lemongrass a try. It’s also great for soothing muscle aches and repelling common insects.

6. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is another good one to keep on hand all year long, but it has specific uses at this time of the year, too. Dealing with itchy insect bites or other skin sensitivities? Dilute a bit of tea tree oil in some coconut oil, and massage it into the area. You’ll be feeling better in no time.

7. Thyme Oil

Insect bites, muscle aches, and cuts are almost banners of spring and summertime fun; however, if left untreated, they can become inflamed and even infected. Keep all of your sounds and skin afflictions in check with a bit of diluted thyme oil.

8. Peppermint Oil

Readjusting to the heat of spring and summer can really take it out of you. If you’re feeling overly exhausted or even overheated, consider using a bit of peppermint oil.       I didn’t even think of that! I ate peppermints and even candy canes to help, but I should have just grabbed my oil. 😉
