More Tradition, Less Obligation

I had a conversation with several of the mamas in my local moms group a few days ago revolving around our likes and dislikes of the holiday season. And during that conversation the idea of tradition came up…

Now, I’ll be honest. I’ve worked pretty hard in an attempt to establish some fun (mostly) and meaningful traditions for our family during the Christmas season. But the more we discussed, the more I realized that much of what I viewed as tradition have actually become obligations…A need to do more, to be more, to have more this time of year.

It’s all too easy for me to get caught up in my to-do list and schedule this time of year. More Than Just Gifts

So this is probably a little late in coming, but I figured since I am officially in full holiday mode that now is better than never! As we finish out our Christmas shopping, I really wanted to shift my focus this year and do a little something different. I’ve always tried to de-emphasize gifts, but especially as our daughter gets older I want to focus more on sharing experiences with her than just gifts.It's easy to give a gift of things, but what if you focused on giving something different this year? I don’t know about you, but it seems like for me the holiday season has always been about one thing…The FOOD! Now, don’t bet me wrong. I know the real reason for the season, but as far as celebrating goes, most of our traditions revolve around food. And I don’t mean the healthy ones. A Healthy Way to Detox

I don’t know about you, but every once in a while I just need a little detox. Whether it’s after vacation, a big birthday weekend, or even a major holiday, sometimes I just need something to clean out my system and help me get back on track with my goals. In the past, detox typically meant starvation for me, but with my recent focus on nutrition and really caring for my body, I wanted a better way, a healthier way to detox.
