Being successful with your health and fitness goals isn’t easy. Whether you’re focused on losing weight, toning up, building muscle, or even gaining weight, it isn’t easy to stay on track and stick to those goals. However, I’ve found one thing that has helped me be effective more than any other and that is pretty easy – just keep it simple. You’re probably chuckling to yourself right now, thinking “Yeah, right. Keeping it simple is really going to help me be successful…” If I hadn’t applied the principle myself, I’d be right there with you. But, I’m here to tell you keeping it simple is one of the single most effective ways to reach your goals (and keep your sanity), so let me explain a little more.
I’ve had people tell me, literally, “I was really afraid to open up that meal plan because I figured it was going to be complicated recipes and things I couldn’t do. But, I was so surprised. These recipes look easy, like things that I can really make!” That’s my goal for me, for you, and for anyone whom I share the health and fitness journey with because, let’s be honest, if it’s complicated, I’m not going to do it. I have too many other things going on to complicate my healthy lifestyle. So, how do I keep it simple, you ask. Here are a few tips!
1. Make Nutrition Simple
One of my favorite ways to make sure I’m getting the nutrition I need is by packing it all into one meal. No, that’s not to say that I don’t pay attention to my nutrition the rest of the day, but if I know I’m getting all the nutrients I need in a single serving, then I don’t have to think about the rest as much. So, how do I do that? It’s easy! I drink Shakeology every morning for breakfast. This “sweet treat” helps set me up for success every single day, keeps me from having to “figure out” breakfast, and helps me get all the nutrition I need in one simple little meal. Now that’s easy…
2. Follow a Program
Another way I keep my health and fitness simple is following a pre-established program. I used to look up all of my own workouts and try to figure out how to balance it all out. But, you know what? That took a lot of time and extra effort that I don’t have right now. Instead, I follow a simple program that all I have to do is put the DVD in the player and press play or look up my workout online, and I’m ready to go. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.
3. Keep Your Eating Plan Simple
They say diet is 70-80% of the equation when it comes to a healthy lifestyle, so obviously it’s important to keep diet in check. But, who has time for tracking, weighing, and following complicated recipes? I know I don’t, so I keep my eating plan simple, too. One way I do that is by following the 21 Day Fix color-coded portion control system. While I do measure a little bit with this, it’s as easy as “if it fits, I eat it.” I’ll let you in on another little secret…I often eat the same thing for several meals each week to keep my eating plan simple. Now, that won’t work for everyone, especially if you like more variety, but it works for me and has helped me lose 43 pounds in right around 5 months. I also like to keep things fresh and easy when it comes to preparing meals. Things like salsa chicken (literally just chicken breast and salsa) thrown into the crockpot are my favorite because they require little to know prep, are delicious, and pack a nutritious punch!
Being successful with your health and fitness plan doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, keeping it simple will actually help you be more successful. Follow these three simple tips, and you’ll be well on your way to meeting all of your health and fitness goals!
