Aside from Christmas decorating, fall decorating is my absolute favorite type of embellishing to do. I know I’ve mentioned it more than a few times, but fall is my absolute favorite season. There is just something about all of the colors, scents, and sights that are customary to fall that I just can’t get over. Plus, the slight coolness of the weather is just perfect. So, when I get in the mood for fall decorating, it’s all about bringing a bit of that loveliness to life in our home. I don’t necessarily go “all out” for seasonal decorating like some people. I prefer to keep it pretty simple but yet classy so I can maximize the use of my décor items and enjoy the same decorations all season long without having to switch out things that are Halloween specific, etc. So, if you want a subtle hint of fall in your home (on a budget, of course), check out my tips for decorating for fall.
1. Choose a Color Palette
Obviously fall lends itself to using the standard color palette of deep yellows, oranges, and reds, but that doesn’t mean you can’t switch it up a bit. While I personally stick with the traditional, I’ve also seen décor designs that are beautiful in neutral hues as well as golden accents and more. Whatever color scheme is your favorite, go with it and be consistent. Your décor will feel more cohesive if it’s all in one color scheme.
2. Bring the Outdoors In
Especially for fall, I love using elements of the outdoors for decorating. Last year, I was able to “harvest” a bunch of acorns to use in our fall décor, and I saved them to reuse this year. I love that I get to utilize these natural elements in my design. Twigs, leaves, pumpkins, and gourds are other great “natural” items to use in your home décor for the season.
3. Emphasize the Accents
It’s easy to get caught up in the big décor pieces, but to me it is the accents that really counts. Any time I’m decorating seasonally, I leave my base home décor the same and just add unique seasonal elements. Doing this makes seasonal decorating easy and more cost effective as I’m not constantly creating new vignettes for around the house.
4. Remember the Ambiance
For me, fall is all about that “golden glow” that just seems to radiate everywhere throughout the season. So, again, as I’m decorating, I like to attempt to recreate this. To do so, be sure to add in some cozy candles throughout your home as well as other warm and inviting elements, such as fall-inspired blankets or throws. Another way I achieve this look is by utilizing the oranges, reds, and yellows throughout my home.
5. Keep It Simple
Another element that makes fall so special to me is its natural simplicity, so I like to imitate this in my décor choices. I keep it simple by going with subtle design choices, selecting natural elements to include in my designs, and just choosing a few areas to embellish with fall décor. With these strategies, I’m able to add some fall flair to my home without going way over the top, which also keeps my budget in check.
Fall decorating doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. In fact, I think the simpler it is, the more beautiful it is. Check out these tips for simple fall decorating and adorn your home with fall style all while sticking to your budget.
