The all-too-familiar anxiety started welling up just a couple of months (probably weeks really) into my pregnancy. I saw my body starting to change, and I didn’t know what to do. Or rather, I didn’t know what I was going to be able to do after my daughter was born…
I had heard all of the stories of women who had gained excessive amounts of weight during pregnancy and then struggled to lose it after the births of their children. While I wanted to be one of those mamas with the “perfect little baby bump,” I couldn’t fathom gaining the weight to get that picturesque look.
As my body started changing even more, I reverted back to my old patterns of thinking.
“I couldn’t possibly be beautiful if I was carrying extra weight.”
“I have to do everything I can to eat less and exercise more.”
“I need to control this weight issue.”
I didn’t want these old patterns and habits to define my pregnancy or my journey after having my baby, so I started doing some research to “take control” of my eating. But, what I found was freedom…
When I had worked to lose the weight when I was younger, I did so by restricting everything I ate and by exercising as much as I could. I knew that wouldn’t work this time around, especially if I was going to be nursing a little one. I wanted something that would help me lose the weight without having the tendency to under-eat or over-exercise.
I did a little research, and I came across a blog post that not only gave me a solution for losing weight. It also provided me with the tools I needed to completely overcome my food issues, to learn how to effectively fuel my body, to discover what healthy actually looks and feels like, and to get in the best shape of my life. This blog post not only gave me the details on the nutrition plan and fitness program that I needed, but it also gave me hope – that I could lose the weight, be successful, and take my life back.
Shortly after my daughter was born, I started following the 21 Day Fix eating plan. I started out like most people suggest, bumping up a bracket to accommodate for breastfeeding. But, I quickly discovered that my body really didn’t need the added calories but only on occasion (like during a growth spurt). And, while I felt overwhelmed in the planning stage of the Fix, once I got started I realized how easy it was. I created and followed a meal plan each week, and I honestly never felt hungry. I couldn’t believe how much I got to eat, but the real surprise was how quickly I started seeing results. Within the first week, I had lost my first couple of pounds, and after my first round I lost 7.
After being cleared by the doctor, I incorporated the workouts, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget that first day back to exercising. There were so many moments when I wanted to give up and call it quits, but I kept reminding myself that the workout was only 30 minutes, and each exercise was only 60 seconds. I had endured contractions longer than that, and I could certainly push myself through a workout for that amount of time.
With each day I stuck to the program and followed the plan, I found myself getting stronger, my willpower increasing, my knowledge of food improving…Each day I felt myself letting go of my old patterns of thinking and embracing this new healthy way of life.
After 2 rounds of the 21 Day Fix, I had lost all of my baby weight. And, after completing 4 rounds of the Fix, I found myself 38 pounds lighter – lighter than I had been when I got married, as a college student, and even than when I was in high school. While that wasn’t initially my goal, it was a huge benefit!
While the weight loss was obviously what I was looking for from the program as I started, it was the real results that make me encourage others to give the program a try. As a woman who has suffered and survived an eating disorder, this program gave me freedom from my old demons. It helped me really learn how to eat and exercise to honor and even love my body. It helped me break free from my old patterns and establish a way of life that I can stick to for the long-term, and to me that is what true health is about.
If you are looking to break free from old habits and want to learn a healthier way of eating and exercising, I’d love to help you get there. Fill out the form below, and I’ll send you all the details on this program that completely transformed my life! I know if you commit to the program and follow the plan, it can do the same for you!
